Exploration Zones by Exhibit Concepts® is proud to announce the unveiling of nearly two dozen convertible classrooms for Alief Independent School District in Houston, Texas. The classrooms will enhance Alief’s full-day early childhood education program by fostering a more equitable educational curriculum for all students across the district.
Alief ISD is a Title I district, serving nearly 50,000 students every year, with roughly 80% of its students coming from low-income families. The new convertible classrooms will allow Alief educators to provide an immersive, hands-on environment to students. Maria Martinez, Early Childhood Coordinator, says, “We want students to develop background knowledge and vocabulary. The only way to do that is to have them experience it.”
The convertible approach allows Alief ISD to engage students with new and exciting ways to learn. The 23 interactive classrooms are designed with pre-school curriculum in mind. They include 12 rotating themes and associated activity kits that can be moved from school to school and classroom to classroom. The themes focus on everything from paleontology to healthy habits to international culture and more. Each unique design has been carefully curated in collaboration with Alief’s. The classrooms encourage play-based learning and help expand the vocabulary and social skills of the students.

Exploration Zones by Exhibit Concepts® partnered with architects, Huckabee and PBK, for the district-wide project, while also working alongside general contractors, Bartlett Cocke and Satterfield & Pontikes.
