Exploration Zones by Exhibit Concepts® and Alief Independent School District are excited to announce the opening of two new early childhood learning centers in Houston, Texas.
The Martinez Early Learning Center and Jefferson Early Learning Center welcomed students for the first time this fall. The early learning centers feature a combined 48 permanent, experiential classrooms for pre-K students in the district.
Alief ISD is a Title I district, serving nearly 50,000 students every year with roughly 80% of its students coming from low-income families. The new classrooms will allow Alief educators to provide an immersive, hands-on environment to students.
The classrooms feature 12 themes, along with activity kits, that inspire students to experience, learn, socialize, and grow while preparing them to achieve and exceed Texas education standards. The play-based classroom designs were made possible through careful consideration of Texas’ statewide curriculum.
Exploration Zones partnered with architects, Huckabee and PBK, for the multi-school project, while also working alongside general contractors, Bartlett Cocke and Satterfield & Pontikes.
“The relationship that we had with Exhibit Concepts was rather remarkable. It was amazing that we would just tell them our ideas, they would go out and research those ideas, and come back with sets of drawings that were exactly what we talked about. It was evident to me that Exhibit Concepts did a lot of research in the community, and in Texas, and how it was relevant to Alief” says Hilda Rodriguez, Assistant Superintendent.
This isn’t the first time that Exploration Zones by Exhibit Concepts® has partnered with Alief ISD and its architectural partners and general contractors. Exhibit Concepts helped construct nearly two dozen convertible classroom spaces for the district just last year.
